Dr. Laurel Screven, PhD., Member At Large. Dr. Screven is a neuroscientist and is currently a Postdoctoral research fellow in the Lauer Lab at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Screven’s area of research is hearing and perception. Dr. Screven has experience teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate college level. She has participated in a student outreach program for students interested in the sciences. She has been an invited lecturer at both John’s Hopkins University and SUNY University at Buffalo. Dr. Screven holds a BS in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience, from SUNY University at Buffalo where she was awarded the Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship.
Dr. Dana Tutt, Ed.D., Member At Large. Dr. Dana Tutt, who earned her Doctorate in Education from Howard University, has over 15 years’ experience as a principal, coach, mentor, teacher, and leader who holds a high belief system that all children can learn and deserve a high quality equitable education. Dana is a native of Washington, DC and began her teaching career at the elementary level in Prince George’s County Maryland. While developing as a leader, Dana held many leadership positions at some of the most demanding schools. Her keen focus on student development and learning, capacity building and the effective use of data allowed her to bring about organizational transformation. Dana’s urban school leadership preparation in both the NISL and New Leaders programs helped prepare her to combat mitigating barriers that impact learning for underprivileged youth. Dana also serves as a certified Gallup-Strength Coach where she uses her expertise to help others discover what makes them exceptional while maximizing their potential. Her love of andragogy also allows her to serve as a Principal’s Mentor through the National Association of Elementary Principals toward the goal of improving education for all children. Dana has received awards as an outstanding educator, leader and community activist. Outside of work Dana enjoys traveling, relaxing, spending time with family, online shopping, and reading.
Mr. Gregory Caldwell, BS Business Administration, Gregory Caldwell has been active in both the academic and corporate world. Beginning his career with Verizon Communications Corporation, Mr. Caldwell worked his way up from a field technician into managing their High Speed Internet (HSI) technical support center. Mr. Caldwell has worked as a project manager and in training / development management before making the move to education as a computer science and mathematics teacher. He currently is teaching in a STEAM high school in Laurel Maryland, where he is the Chairperson of Computer Science.
Mrs. Jane M. Tarwacki, Vice President. is an Immersion Instructional Specialist in Prince George’s County Public Schools. Prior to serving in her current role, she was a Middle School Spanish Teacher for 9 years and taught Intro to Spanish, Level 1, and Level 2. Mrs. Tarwacki attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she graduated with a B.A. in Spanish and Political Science, as well as a M.T. in Secondary Education. She also holds a Professional Certificate from George Washington University in Professional Teaching Standards and a Professional Certificate from Bowie State University in Administration I. Mrs. Tarwacki was also a National Board Candidate in 2008. In addition to her professional duties at Prince George’s County Public Schools, Mrs. Tarwacki served as President of the Greater Washington Association of Teachers of Foreign Language (GWATFL) from 2011-2016. She continues to support the organization in the role of Immediate Past President. Mrs Tarwacki has a passion for providing professional development to her teachers and other World Languages teachers. She has presented at many conferences including GWATFL, MFLA, NECTFL, and ACTFL. Her favorite topic to present on is Best Practices.
Ms. Courtney Galiber, Recording Secretary of the Board of Trustees, is a licensed Landscape Architect who has practiced for the last 15 years in the land development/civil engineering industry. She obtained her professional license in 2008. As a Senior Landscape Architect at Morris and Ritchie Associates, she oversees design of a variety of development projects including large-scale residential developments, commercial retail centers, office and industrial parks, and institutional projects. She served for 5 years on the executive board of the Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, including a term as President (3 year commitment). She obtained a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Maryland in 2004.
Ms. Sabrina Bond, Trustee Finance Committee, Ms. Bond is a seasoned school finance professional, working in charter school finance for over five years. As a school based financial expert, Ms. Bond has worked closely with school administration to assure that financial procedures are put in place and followed, so that compliance requirements are met. As a mentor and coach, Ms Bond has worked closely with students, leading her cheerleading team to be county middle school 1st place champions. Ms. Bond is in the process of obtaining her Masters of Business Administration in Finance.
